What to do When it Seems like the World is Against You
Sometimes, in this life, we get beaten down. We begin our lives as children with big dreams, being told most commonly either that anything is possible, or that you’ll never make it out of the situation you’re in. Hopefully it’s the first, and that you’ve always been told your dreams are possible. If the second, I hope you have the courage to fight that, and pursue your dreams to the best of your ability.
Life is lined with unfortunate circumstances and no matter how planned, will always lay unexpected roadblocks in the way, or even completely derail you plans. However, we must remember who we are, and what we are trying to accomplish. I believe in fate, but I also believe in hard work and dedication. When the two are combined, it is a force unmatched by almost everything else. Often, the two work in tandem, and we frequently find our passions and paths in life due to fate’s hand. It’s once we find that thing that we cannot live without pursuing, that the hard work and dedication comes into play.
Even so, sometimes we feel like the world is against us. We’re told we’re not good enough, pretty enough, enough this, not enough of that…the list is endless. Too weird. Or unoriginal. Not the right skin color, demographic. Whatever the case may be, being rejected time after time is never easy, especially if even the ones closest to you don’t believe in you.
So what do you do? How do you continue on, when you’re not achieving what you set out to do? When the whole world is weighing on your shoulders?
You continue on.
It’s that simple. If it’s truly what you’re meant to do, you must find a way to make ends meet, and to continue pursuing that goal, that dream. You have to find that peace within yourself amidst the chaos of the world telling you no—that you have to find a 9-5 job, that you have to get that place with the white picket fence, that you can’t be what you truly believe you can be.
No. Say it again. No.
When the world tells you no, you have to tell them no.
You have to say that you’re not willing to settle for a life that’s not going to give you joy and happiness and fulfillment. You have to believe in yourself. Because that’s what it comes down to. Some roads are more difficult than others, but what will define you is your strength, your passion, your courage, your personality, your humbleness, and your unrelenting dedication to pursuing something that makes your life meaningful.
Because if you’re not living and doing something that makes life worth living, what are you doing?
We have this one life. Too many people think they have loads of time. The truth is, we don’t. I have lived my life according to the rules dictated by society as we know it, but I know that time is against me—it’s against us. We never get this time back.
We never get today back.
So tell me, how you want to spend it?
